Spellman Awarded Two New U.S. Patents Strengthening High-Voltage and X-ray System Technologies

December 14, 2025

Spellman High-Voltage Electronics has been awarded two new U.S. patents by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), underscoring the company’s continued focus on advancing high-voltage and X-ray system technologies while protecting its growing portfolio of intellectual property.

The newly issued patents address critical aspects of system performance, control, and measurement in demanding high-voltage applications:

Pre-Heating of the Filament of an X-ray Tube

Inventors: Ray Bowker, Nelson Reyes, William Brasch

This patent describes an apparatus and method for controlled pre-heating of an X-ray tube filament prior to high-voltage operation. The approach enables improved thermal management and emission stability, reducing stress on the filament during startup and contributing to enhanced reliability, repeatability, and service life in X-ray systems.

Measurement of Load Capacitance or Impedance in High-Voltage DC Power Supplies

Inventor: Jean-Michel Seveau

This invention provides techniques for measuring load capacitance or impedance in high-voltage DC power supplies by analyzing system behavior during operation. The capability enables more accurate characterization of connected loads, improved diagnostic insight, and enhanced system protection, supporting robust performance across a wide range of applications.

“These patent awards reflect Spellman’s deep technical expertise and long-term investment in innovation,” said Spellman. “The technologies covered by these patents extend our ability to deliver high-performance, reliable high-voltage solutions while meeting the evolving requirements of medical, industrial, and scientific markets.”

Spellman continues to focus on engineering-driven innovation that enables precise control, monitoring, and protection in high-voltage systems, reinforcing its position as a trusted technology partner to OEMs worldwide.
